Who are We?

Grace Gathering Community Church is a brand new church established in Hopkinsville, KY August 2023. We are a family of Christians who love the Lord and love each other. We gather every Sunday to worship and praise God and enjoy fellowship with one another. We hope you can join us as we strive to live out the words of John 13:34-35: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love another another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples..."

In the Book of Acts Chapter 2, we learn that the earliest Christians worshipped together at the temple, met in each other's homes for meals, including the Lord's Supper, devoted themselves to prayer and the teaching of Jesus's apostles (it's easy to forget that they didn't even have the Bible then!), and shared their meals with great joy and generosity, "all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people." And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

This is the kind of community we want to be when we gather together. We study. We learn. We sing. We eat. We laugh. We share. We plan ways to serve. And the most precious act we do is worship the God of all creation who gave His sinless son to die on the cross as the ultimate and final sacrifice for OUR sins so that we might have the hope of being raised from the dead someday just as Christ was. Our ultimate goal is to spend eternity with Jesus and our Heavenly Father and to take as many people with us as we can.

WORSHIP

We don't have our own minister yet so we're gathering together every Sunday morning to watch the message from Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. You can expect some wonderful music to center your thoughts on God and a practical and inspiring message straight from the Bible.

MUSIC

Whether it's the heart wrenching honesty of a soul crying out to God in the Psalms or the trumpet call of Christ's return mentioned in I Thessalonians 4:16 or the multitude of angels gathered around the throne of Christ in Revelations singing, "Holy, Holy, Holy", we believe music is an integral and eternal aspect of worship. We love all kinds of music at Grace Gathering Community Church! We love the classic hymns that have stood the test of time and the modern praise music that brings people to their feet as one in worship of our Lord.

COMMUNION

When Christ shared communion (or the Lord's Supper) with his disciples during His last meal with them on the night before He was crucified, He told them that the bread and wine represented his body and blood and that every time they partook of it, they were to "do this in remembrance of me". We choose to share communion together every Sunday morning during worship as another way to remember Him, to honor Him, and to draw closer to Him. You are welcome to partake if you feel comfortable doing so.

BAPTISM

We believe that baptism serves as a symbol of the burial of the old self and the resurrection of your soul to walk in life with Christ. You "die" as Christ did, then "rise again" to new life in Him. A few of the examples of baptism in the New Testament include:

Acts 2:37-39 when 3000 were baptized after Peter's first "gospel" sermon:

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Acts 8:26-40 The baptism of the Ethiopian eunuch after Philip preached the gospel to him and he responded with, "Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of me being baptized?"

Acts 9:10-21 The baptism of Paul after his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus: 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

We don't have our own baptistry right now, but I can promise you that if you would like to put on Christ in baptism, we'll find a body of water (or a tub!) to make that happen.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe the Holy Spirit is a gift Christ sent upon His death that indwells every believer. According to various scriptures, the job of the Spirit is to advocate for us, guide us when we feel lost, teach us so we can become more like Christ every day, convict us when we sin, comfort us when we hurt, and bestow gifts upon us that will also give us more of Christ's character and the peace that passes all understanding that Jesus promised and God wants us to have.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

The minute you walk through our doors on Sunday, you'll probably notice that we love kids just like Jesus did! We have a staffed nursery during worship and a member planning youth activities during Bible study on Sunday night at 6:30. We're also working on some fun plans for 2024 like a youth camp and a trip to Winterfest in Gatlinburg in February.

WHAT TO WEAR

Christ calls us to "come as we are" and we invite you to do the same. If you want to dress up, dress up. If you want to wear shorts and t-shirt, wear shorts and t-shirt. We'll just be happy you're there!
